2 years ago God provided for a car for Morning Star. It didn't come a day too soon, as the kids came the day after the car came!
In the past 2 years this car has seen a lot of miles. Praise the Lord we have had no accidents, and the problems we have had with the car have been inexpensive to fix.
As the ministry has grown so have our needs, financially, emotionally, physically and logistically.
Our location right now is great, and we are hoping that we can open another home in the area soon, we are also praying about working directly in one of the orphanages that the babies come from.
The most pressing problem now is that we need a second car.
Right now, because the babies are so sick, we have not been able to go far from the home in case something happens. But, this means there are a lot of things that we need that we have not been able to purchase because to purchase them would mean to take the car too far away.
As you know there have been at least 2 times recently when an emergency has happened and we had no car available to take the baby to the hospital.
This is also becoming a problem because we are not allowed to drive on Wednesdays outside our local area, we can not drive to the hospital.
We have needed a second car for a long time, we have tried and tried to make one car work, and it just isn't possible.
The urgency has also increased because a new law is in process where license plates are going to be restricted. In Shanghai this has meant licenses now cost $7,000.
This means we no longer have time to wait, we need a car, and we need it now.
I would love to tell you exactly what we would buy when the money comes, but it is a little hard to say. We would like to both be responsible with the money and get what we need.
What we would like is to purchase a used Honda accord which will give us the reliability we are looking for and we have found these for 'reasonable' prices, around $15,000.
What we NEED is a car that is a little larger, some type of mini-van, but even used these are incredibly expensive, difficult to justify.
Of course it would be nice to purchase a new car so that we know we are getting something reliable, but they are just too expensive with taxes and fees.
It sounds huge, I know. I too am somewhat overwhelmed knowing that there are still so many other things that we need.
But one thing, one day at a time.
It isn't really that huge, 300 people with $50.
600 people with $25.
It really isn't that much. (gulp.)
Think about it. Pray about it. Share it if you feel like it. Anything.
